Yesterday I read some news (the matatudriver put a newspaper in our hands while we were waiting for the matatu to fill) about the increasing prices in Kenya. What was the reason behind it? The high oil prices!
What did I just read in Aftenposten? The oil prices increased by 10 dollars in 16 days, and the increase is credited to speculants. For Norway as a nation, this is good news, as it means more money for Norway. But does these speculants realize that they are speculating on the ability of the people living for under a dollar per day to survive? There's quite a lot of them around here, and I'm sure it causes more pain for four million people here than it causes good for the four million people in Norway.
And that's just in Kenya.
